DWC (deep water culture) is the preferred system for lettuce cultivation. Lettuce is a fast growing and water loving plant, which makes it an ideal choice for deep water culture system. Many commercial Hydroponic Lettuce operations are operated by using floating polystyrene foam rafts to maintain the plant cup or plant itself.

This setup can be as simple as a bucket full of mixed hydroponic nutrients (called nutes), with a hole in the lid to support the flowerpot, or it can be made large enough to support multiple plants. DWC hydroponics only requires a simple air stone and air pump to keep the nutrient solution stirred, oxygenated and fresh.
