A pressure tank is an essential part of a pump pressure system. It is designed to work like a shock absorber and take excess water volume and pressure from a pump system so that pressure is more constant and the pump installed on the system does not cycles as much. Depending on what the application is and the type of pump and control system you have will mean that there is different sizes and materials required in your pressure tank.
